The kitchen is the heart of the home. It’s where your family comes together and where food is prepared that provides nourishment to them. Just keeping your kitchen clean isn’t enough; you need to have the right Vastu and balance the energies in it for yourself and your family.

Keeping the kitchen free of Vastu dosh (mistakes) is important for maintaining peace among family members. It also allows for the optimal flow of energies which will keep everyone in the home happy. Here are some common mistakes happening in your kitchen that you need to avoid:

Having a temple or prayer area set up in the kitchen

According to Vastu rules, building a temple or prayer area within the kitchen is wrong. Vastu expert Pallavi Chhelavda suggests that doing so can make you aggressive. It’s also known to cause blood-related issues later in life. If your home happens to have a temple built in the kitchen, keep the area covered with a thick curtain when not in use.

The kitchen and bathroom being adjacent to each other

Most homeowners believe that the kitchen and bathroom shouldn’t be near each other. Vastu rules agree with this. Having the two in close proximity is known to cause ill health in the family. Make sure that the kitchen and bathroom of the house are kept far apart. Since kitchens fittings are portable, you can have the kitchen set up elsewhere in the home.

Not having a bowl of salt

Salt is known to bring flavor to any food. According to Vastu Shastra, the kitchen of the house needs to have a bowl of salt. Replace this bowl of salt every two days. A salt bowl is considered auspicious. Known to give out cosmic energy, it’s known to improve the flow of energies inside the kitchen.

Having the kitchen in front of the main entrance

The kitchen should not be in the way of the main door of the house. According to Vastu, it’s known to bring bad luck on the entire family. The kitchen should be facing the North West or South East direction of the house.

If your home happens to be made in a way that the kitchen is in front of the main entrance, have a divider set up to optimize the flow of energies within the space.

Having storage or a pantry inside the kitchen

Having storage within the kitchen may sound convenient, but it’s not ideal according to Vastu Shastra. Having a pantry inside the kitchen is linked to career issues for family members. If you are unable to change this about your home, keep a silver coin in your kitchen to negate the effects of having a storage space in the kitchen.
